Forklift Safety: Everyone’s Job at RAE

ree

Forklifts are a vital part of our day-to-day operations here at RAE Corporation—but with that power comes great responsibility. These machines move heavy loads, navigate tight spaces, and operate in areas where foot traffic is common. That’s why it’s critical that everyone, from certified operators to pedestrians, understands their role in keeping our workplace safe.

For Forklift Operators

1. Start with a Daily Pre-Shift Inspection

Before you drive, check the essentials:

✔ Tires

✔ Brakes

✔ Horns and alarms

✔ Lights and steering

✔ Forks and fluid levels

Report any issues before use. If it’s not safe, don’t operate it.

2. Drive Defensively

Slow down and stay alert—especially around corners or in congested areas. Always honk at intersections or when visibility is limited.

3. Respect Speed Limits

Forklifts aren’t racecars. Obey safe speeds and never engage in horseplay. One wrong turn could cause serious harm.

4. Secure Your Load

Keep loads low and tilted slightly back. Don’t exceed the forklift’s weight limit, and make sure everything is secure before moving.

5. Know What’s Around You

Always look in the direction you’re traveling. Use a spotter if your view is blocked.

6. No Riders, No Exceptions

Never carry anyone on the forklift or let someone ride the load. Forklifts are built for one—no passengers.

For Pedestrians

1. Make Eye Contact

Don’t assume you’ve been seen. Get a visual confirmation from the operator before crossing paths or entering their work zone.

2. Stay Focused

Put your phone away and keep your ears open in forklift zones. Distractions can cost lives.

3. Steer Clear of Blind Spots

Forklift masts and large loads block visibility. Always give the forklift a wide berth.

Shared Responsibility

Whether you’re driving or walking, remember these key safety habits:

  • Never walk or stand under raised forks.

  • Stay out of the path of forklifts during loading or unloading.

  • Report unsafe behavior or near misses immediately—your voice can prevent an accident.

Stay Alert. Stay Safe.

Forklift safety isn’t optional—it’s a shared commitment. It only takes one second of inattention to cause a life-changing injury. So whether you're behind the wheel or on the warehouse floor, stay aware, speak up, and always put safety first.

Let’s keep RAE safe—together.
